In Australia, a proposal for a smartcard to help problem gamblers addicted to electronic gaming machines, or “pokies”, became one of the country’s most contentious political issues. Supporters and opponents both point to a similar scheme in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia to argue their position. I set out with a video camera to investigate.
